Leading cloud providers have expanded their adoption of EPYC CPUs to meet the growing demand for public cloud

On March 31, 2025, Santa Clara, California - AMD (AMD, NASDAQ: AMD) announced today that its fifth generation AMD EPYC processor will power the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Computing E6 Standard Shape, a powerful server CPU for enterprise, AI, and cloud computing worldwide. According to OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) tests, the fifth generation AMD EPYC processor can help OCI E6 Shape achieve up to twice the cost-effectiveness compared to its predecessor E5 instances.

The all-new OCI E6 Shape provides leading performance and cost efficiency for general-purpose and compute intensive workloads, building upon the success of the previous E5 instance. These shapes will bring over a thousand types of computing instances to major cloud service providers based on AMD EPYC processors.

Dan McNamara, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD's Server Division, stated, "The rapid deployment of AMD EPYC processors in the cloud demonstrates our ability to provide innovative, high-performance solutions to help our partners create highly competitive cloud products. The combination of OCI's flexible infrastructure and the powerful performance of the fifth generation AMD EPYC processor not only helps customers accelerate demanding workloads, but also optimizes their cloud infrastructure

Donald Lu, Senior Vice President of Cloud Infrastructure Computing at Oracle, believes that "Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is committed to providing customers with more powerful performance and cost-effective cloud solutions. Through the new OCI computing E6 standard Shape based on AMD EPYC processors, we will bring an excellent combination of computing performance, scalability, and efficiency to meet today's more complex workload requirements

Availability and Customer Deployment

OCI E6 standard bare metal instances and virtual machines are currently available in multiple regions and are planned to be launched in more regions in the coming months.
